• Note*: Biography ==From the pension application files of Samuel Knox, concerning his wife Elizabeth Jones. Sworn to by Margaret Eoff, formerly Margaret Knox, sister of Samuel. State of Tennessee Coffee County: Before me John G. Walker a justice of the peace in and for the County of Coffee aforesaid on the 23rd day of October 1843 personally appeared Margaret Eoff aged about 80 years, who after being first duly sworn deposes as follows: that she has known Catherine Knox from her childhood, that they were raised together in South Carolina Chesterdistrict. This deponent was present when Catherine (Jones) Knox above named married to Samuel Knox late deceased, and was a waiter at the wedding. She cannot recollect the day or year in which they were married -- it was about the end of the Revolutionary war, and about 1 1/2 years before the births of their oldest child Elizabeth Knox, now Elizabeth Jones. They were married at the house of William Jones (her father) by preacher Simpson as she recollects. The said Samuel Knox & Catherine his widow removed to Kentucky and then to Tennessee. The said Samuel died in Rutherford County Tennessee, as deponent has been informed & believes some times last summer -- his widow still resides there. He was a pensioner when he died.Subscribed & sworn before me this the day & year above written & I certify that said deponent is a respectable person & worthy of credit

She was the 1st body buried in the graveyard on William Eoff's farm on crooked creek which is 4 miles southeast of the present site of the town of Bellafonte Arkansas .This cemetery is sometimes known as Union Church graveyard.
  Ten years before we located on Crooked Creek (or in 1832), Wm. Eoff, another brother of my father, located here. Dave Nichols come with him. Nichols was a noted Primitive Baptist preacher.³
