• Note*: The will of John Buchanan names "daughter Martha, wife of John Buchanan. In his book, "The Buchanans of Augusta Co., VA", Paul C. Buchanan asserts that this John Buchanan died intestate in 1782 Wythe Co., VA. & was the son of James & Martha Buchanan. He cites as evidence " The Family History of James Buchanan, Son of Alexander" by John A. Blakemore" This book has not yet been digitized online. I find no evidence os this assertion at all. Wythe Co. was formed from Montgomery in 1789/1790, & I have not found this record in either Wythe or Montgomery records. However, John Buchanan, the son of Col. John Buchanan (per his wil), seems to have been killed in 1777 Battle of Saratoga. James Buchanan was named administrator of this John's estate & also names Heir-at-law. This means that this John had no living children at his death. So that seems to leave John, the son of James as the husband of Martha, daughter of John Buchanan, the miller.
