John W. also had a child, Alexander (abt 1842 ), by Rebecca Huff (abt 1842) who was a daughter of James Huff and Obedience Koger (James & Obedience listed on your site - Rebecca is not listed ). Rebecca left the child Alexander 'Mack' Morris, and married someone else. My father told me that when the child Alexander was about 8 yrs. old, his father, John W. Morris, brought him to the Crab Orchard (Keokee, Lee Co. Va.) to raise. Alexander Morris married Mary Polly Gilbert. These are my ggrandparents. They raised a number of children in the Keokee, Lee Co. Va. area. You have most of them listed on the site under Alexander Morris (you don't show his father and mother)." (DLW note: Rebecca Huf is recorded as the mother of Allen Morris, Alexander Morrie and Alfred Huff. Although she does not seem to have married John W. Morris, records & correspondence indicate that he was the father if Allen & Alexander Morris. We suspect that he was also the father of Alfred Huff.)3

  • Note*: "Alfred "App" Huff who lived near Elk Knob, some four miles east of Pennington Gap was a grandson and was reared by his grandfather James Huff who was a member of the party who killed the half-breed Indian Chief Benge, in 1794. James Huff was still alive in Harlan County, Kentucky, in 1845. App Huff remembered many Indian stories told him by his grandfather, James Huff."7
  • Note: Although some researchers have posited that Alfred was the son on Isaac & Rebecca Hughes Huff, we doubt that this is correct. Alfred's father was very likely John W. Morris, the father of Alexander & Allen Morris; however, the 1850 Harlan census seems to indicate otherwise. Rebecca Huff, was the daughter of James Sr. & Obedience Huff, seem to have been the mother of the three boys.
