• Note*: We think it is quite possible that John Woody or his brother, Thomas, was was thought to be the father of David Woody of Person Co., NC. David's first son was named John & he had a son named Thomas; however, the yDNA of 3 of David's descendants is completely different from the Virginia Woodys. It could be that John/Thomas was adopted or the child of an unmarried Woody female or it could be that David was the son of a unmarried female Woody & a male Brooks. However, the yDNA of the descendants does not match any known Brooks yDNA. However, it seems like all or most of the male Woodys concerned in the 1814 Person County sale thought they were related. I think they were surely all part of the same family unit, even if not biologically connected to a Woody male.

Since a John Woody signed a 1776 petition in Dover Dist., Goochland, this suit could pertain to him. However, in a 1769 Albemarle suit, a James Woodie was sued by John Strange over the same property. Later that year, proceedings related to this suit alleged that James Woodie was dead leaving James Woodie of Bedford and daughter Mary & John Brooks of Amelia. However, we think that James Woody also had a son John & somehow John ended up with the disputed property or that the James Woodie named as the son of the deceased James Woodie was, in fact, John Woodie. Because of the involvement of John Brooks, who was also recorded with a James Woody in 1752 Louisa, we are inclined to go him and his assumed son John.⁵
