He was probably the Richard Woody enumerated as a laborer in the home of Stephen Fenton in the 1850 Botetourt Co. census since Richard's daughter, Eva, was born in that county. He married Frances McDaniel, granddaughter of Mary Agness Rucker Ogden, who died in Amherst in 1863. Mary Agness left a will naming Frances Woody. However, Richard Lawrence Woody is another candidate for the son of Richard C. Woody & there is some evidence that suggests this relationship.
