• Note: It is very unfortunate that Richard was not enumerated in the 1830 census, but judging from the birth frequency for his children, he might have had 10 children between his marriage in 1819 and 1840, when he was enumerated with 3 males and 4 females. It appears that Frances had died before this census.
• Note*: With the discovery that Richard C. Woody had a daughter named Annie Cottrell Woody, we conclude that Richard C. Woody was the son of Samuel and Elizabeth Cottrell Dennis Woody. Other circumstantial evidence adds to this evidence. The father of Elizabeth was Richard Contrell. Samuel Woody died c1808, but the 1810 Nelson census for his widow, Elizabeth, enumerated 1 male 10/16 and 1 male 16/26. Since Richard was born c 1800, the 10/16 male was most likely Richard. The close association of Pocahantas Woody, the proven daughter of Samuel Woody, with George W. and Joshua Carroll also adds to the weight of the evidence.
