Event-Misc: I have concluded that James M. McCorkle is the son of John & Mary Holley McCorkle of Lawrence Co., OH. James is shown age 39 (bc 1821) in the 1860 Cabell Co., WV census (transcribed) and age 50 in the 1870 Cabell Co. census. In the 1850 Cabell Co. census (transcribed) he is shown as 25, wife Sarah, age 25 and children ages 10, 9, 7, 4, & 2.
A descendant of James M. (Tom McCorkle in Cabell Co. Heritage Book) states that he lived in Lawrence Co. before moving to Huntington. The 1830 Union Twp. Lawrence Co. census shows John's family with 1 male child, age 10/15. The 1840 Union Twp. Lawrence Co. census show James as head of household living close to John with 1 male, age 20/30; 1female, age 15/20 & 1 male, under 5. All of these data are consistent, except for the age 25 in the 1850 census, which looks suspicious considering the children's ages.

Added evidence is the 16 May 1887 Cabell Co., WV death record of James McCorkle. Age 67. Parents: John & Mary. Born Ohio. Ocupation: farmer. Consort: Sarah McCorkle. Informant: family.

12/3/99 Karen Dunagan Smith has done exceptional research on James M. She has confirmed that James M. is the son of John and Mary Holley McCorkle. In her research, Karen discovered an old framed lineage of the James & Sarah Aills family hanging on the wall of a relatives home.^4,5,6,7,8
