• Note*: One of the keys to sorting out the Galloways of Belmont Co., Ohio is an awareness of the locations of the county townships. Most of the Belmont Galloways lived in Pultney Twp. with a smaller group in Warren Twp. Pultney is on the far eastern county border adjacent to the Ohio River. Coversely, Warren is on the far western border adjoining Kirkwood Twp. & Guernsey Co. Since females usually were married in or near their hometowns & townships, the inclusion of residence townships on many Belmont marriage bonds is very useful. We have not seen a complete transcription or image of the guardianship proceeding initiated by Nancy Galloway to transfer guardianship from herself to John Davenport, so we are not completely sure that the Eliza mentioned in this document is the same person as the Elizabeth Galloway that married Albert McCaffrey. We are hopeful of seeing an image of this document in the future. However, we are confident that Elizabeth was a daughter of James. We have seen previous instances of Eliza & Elizabeth in the same family. Both Elizabeth Galloway & Albert McCaffrey were residents of Kirkwood Twp. when they married. The 1830 census shows that Nancy Galloway Buchanan and her family were also living in Kirkwood & that John Davenport, the guardian of the Galloway children, and his family were living in adjacent Warren Twp. Both enumerations contained a female in the age group consistent with Elizabeth birth date.

• Note: I am not entirely sure if Washington was married once or twice. According to the censuses he and his wife/wives had five daughters between 1830 and 1840. The wife named Maria L. never once used the name Margaret, so I'm going to guess that he was married twice. It seems that Chloe, Missouri, Adam Clark & Virginia were the children of Maria. Hannah was a given name that was very popular with the Rubencans etc. that I have researched, so I'm assigning her to Margaret. I have never found Lydia M., but I think it is highly likely that she was the Margaret McCaffrey found living with Bailey & Lydia McCaffrey in 1850. The evidence shows that Maria L. took four children and went to Iowa before 1856. However, it is possible that Margaret and Maria L. were the same person and I'm still searching for more evidence. There must be some connection to someone in Iowa, but I have not found it.

• Event-Misc: Since the will of Sam McCorkle Jr., of Green Co., KY mentions a son John, most McCorkle researchers have assumed that the John McCorkle that married Nancy Wright in Green Co. KY
  (7 Dec 1824) was the son of Samuel Jr. and that this couple moved to Missouri and are listed in the 1850 Clinton Co., MO census. Nancy isted as Lydia in a later census. After much research, I agree with this conclusion; however, there is the chance that John was the son of the Samuel McCorkle (or his close relative) that died in 1797 Green Co., KY. There is a connection between this Samuel and James McCorkle and James Dysart.
  
  The following data on John, Nancy (Lydia) and their family was taken from MO censuses and assumes that the "children" listed were the offspring of John:
  
  1. John was born in VA.
  2. John's wife Lydia Nancy was born in KY.
  3. John, Nancy & family were living near other Green Co. Mccorkles in 1850. These other Mccorkles were the descendants of John & Lydia McCorkle. Lydia's husband, John was the brother to Samuel Jr. and supposedly died in 1814.
  4. Lydia Frances, b Jan 1816, John's oldest living child in the 1850 MO census was born in KY and she was some ten years older than the rest of John's children. If John of MO was the John that married Nancy in 1824, then Lydia Frances was almost surely the daughter of a previous wife of John of MO.
  
  Although the above information is not proof, I think it is safe to assume that the John & Nancy of the 1850 MO census were indeed the couple married in Green Co., KY; however, I am not 100% sure that John was the grandson of Samuel McCorkle of Augusta.
  
  On June 13, 1805, a John Mccorkle married Ann Speers in Green Co., KY. The Bible of Ann's father, Samuel, lists John Mccorkle Jr. as her husband. I have concluded that Jr. was used to denote the younger John McCorkle in Green Co. at that time. The other John McCorkle was the son of Samuel & Sarah of Augusta Co., VA.
  
  Also, a John Mccorkle married a Patsy Redmond, Feb 2, 1815, in Green Co., KY. This could have been the son of Samuel Jr., but the 1820 census shows that this John had at least 2 children born before 1810. But maybe Patsey was his 2nd wife.
  
  Another interesting fact is that Eliza, a daughter of John of MO, born c. 1832, named one of her sons Redmond. Eliza was born in the same time period as the other four children of John and Lydia Nancy that were born in MO and is assumed to be the daughter of Lydia Nancy.
  
  Another piece of information that relates to the above discussion is the Sept 1, 1785 will of Samuel Mccorkle Sr. of Augusta Co., VA. Sam Sr. was the father of Sam of Green Co., KY. This will names William and Samuel as two grandsons. Some researchers assume that these children were the sons of Sam Jr., who was living in his own home on the farm and probably married. If they were, they had most likely died before the 20 Apr, 1840 will of Sam Jr., as they are not mentioned in this document. Another good possibility is that these grandchildren were the sons of a deceased son of Samuel Sr. John of MO was 70 years old (bc. 1780) in 1850. If he is the son of Sam Jr., why wasn't he mentioned with Samuel and William in the will of Sam Sr? If one subscribes to the assumption that John of MO was the son of Sam Jr., then the two grandchildren were most likely the sons of a deceased son of Sam Sr. On the other hand, if one subscribes to the assumption that the grandchildren were the sons of Sam Jr., then John of MO is most likely not the son of Sam Jr.^3,5
