• Note*: Robert's will names wife Jane, but Jane who? In 1935, Lucy Reardon submitted an accounting of the Robert McCorkle Sr. children and their spouses to the DAR. Lucy attested before a notary that she transscribed these names from the Bible of Robert McCorkle Sr.This document was then notarized. Jane Symonds is named as the wife of Robert McCorkle Jr. in Lucy's compliation. Lucy also names Elizabeth Symonds as wife of Robert's brother, Samuel. Other researchers have named Samuel's wife as Seemons. Louise Woody names Sam's wife as Simmons.
  However, Cabell Co., WV marriage records contain a marriage of Robert McCorkle and Jane Smith on 21 Oct 1819. The 1849 will of James Smith of Jackson Co., OH names daughters Jane McCorkle and Elizabeth McCorkle, wife of Andrew McCorkle. The 1820 Jackson Co., OH census shows a Robert McCorkle with a wife and young daughter. This is the area where Robert's brother Andrew lived. Andrew married Elizabeth Smith. Robert does not seem to be in the Lawrence Co., OH census for 1820.
  
  In 1849, when James Smith wrote his will, his daughter Jane was married to a McCorkle. So it seems that Jane Smith was married to Robert from 1819 to at least 1849. It also seems to us that Robert & Jane Smith McCorkle were the parents of Elizabeth Jane McCorkle; however, Lucy Reardon's research has proved very complete & accurate.
  
  It seems possible that Robert may have married Jane Simmons & she died soon after, possibly in childbirth. Then Robert could have married Jane Smith. This all would have occured about 1817-1819 and I don't see how this second marriage could have been omitted from the Robert McCorkle Bible.
  It is also possible that Lucy just made a transscription errorwhen she compliled her list of children and spouses.
